UK Stress and Resilience Network
Founded in 2026 by researchers based in Cambridge, the UK Stress and Resilience Network was established to address the need for a dedicated, collaborative community connecting researchers working across the UK to understand stress, resilience and vulnerability to stress-related disorders.
Â
Stress is a fundamental aspect of human experience, yet its effects vary considerably between individuals. Understanding why some individuals are more vulnerable to the lasting effects of stress while others demonstrate resilience requires an integrated approach spanning multiple disciplines, levels of analysis and research methodologies. Despite the breadth of research in this area, opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange across the UK remain fragmented. The UK Stress and Resilience Network aims to help bridge this gap by bringing together researchers, clinicians and practitioners from diverse backgrounds and career stages who share an interest in advancing our understanding of stress and resilience.
Â
The network provides a platform for sharing research, exchanging ideas, showcasing emerging work and developing new collaborations across institutions and disciplines. By connecting researchers working across basic, translational and clinical science, we aim to encourage interdisciplinary approaches, facilitate the exchange of expertise and support the development of new research directions. We also hope to create opportunities for early-career researchers to establish connections, share their work and become part of a wider scientific community.
Â
The UK network also serves as a bridge to the Global Stress and Resilience Network (GSRNet), connecting researchers based in the UK with the broader international community. Through this connection, we aim to strengthen international collaborations, facilitate the exchange of knowledge across borders and contribute to a coordinated global effort to advance stress and resilience research.
Â
Ultimately, our goal is to build an inclusive, connected and active research community that advances scientific understanding of stress and resilience, helps identify the mechanisms underlying individual differences in stress susceptibility, and supports the translation of research findings into meaningful improvements in mental health and wellbeing.
Â
Whether you are an established investigator, an early-career researcher, a clinician or a practitioner with an interest in stress and resilience, we welcome you to join the network and help shape its future.
Our Founders

Professor Amy Milton
Charlotte Rye
Professor of Behavioural Neuroscience
Passionate about developing translationally relevant models of mental health disorders and fostering dialogue between basic and clinical neuroscientists to bridge the gap between fundamental and clinical research.
PhD Candidate in Behavioural Neuroscience
Committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying individual differences in vulnerability and resilience to stress, and connecting mechanistic neuroscience with broader approaches to understanding PTSD and mental health.
